Thanks to fun and slightly unusual frame styles and lens colors, Absurda has quickly become hot in its homeland, and the rest of South America as well — especially with fashion-forward artists and influencers. Now, you too can tap into Rio’s exuberant sense of spirit, even if you can’t actually sip a caipirinha on the beach because Absurda is now in (North) America.

While the company is squarely Brazilian, their focus is international. Their sunglasses are made in various spots, from Brazil to Italy to South Korea, and many of Absurda’s frame styles are named after and inspired by, locales as far flung as a neighborhood in Brooklyn and a famous downtown area in Buenos Aires.

It’s hard to pick just one favorite out of the 21 choices Absurda offers in men’s sunglasses styles (not including color choices). Amazon offers a wide range of the company’s frame and color selections and there are even more on Absurda’s website.

We like the Davis ($165), named for the hip Somerville, Massachusetts neighborhood Davis Square. These stylish shades are a mash-up between wire frames and acetate and feature a keyhole bridge and four color choices (black frames with matte gunmetal and grey with flash silver lenses, black with matte black metal and grey lenses, clear frames with matte blue metal and blue lenses and our absolute fave, the subtle tortoise shell in dark brown with light gold metal and brown lenses shown above). The Davis updates the key bridge frame made famous by Steve McQueen for that perfect balance between classic cool and contemporary style.

We also dig The Born (below, $95), which comes in five wildly different frame options, from black to tortoise shell — perfect for autumn — to a summer-y, brilliant sky blue.

Absurda Eyewear, who launched in the U.S during Miami Swim Week this past July has collaborated with Nomia on exclusive eyewear for Nomia’s SS18 Presentation at New York Fashion Week.

Womenswear line Nomia, based in New York and designed by Brazilian-American, Yara Flinn found their perfect match with South America’s Absurda Eyewear.

” Nomia is a brand that is influenced by art and architecture, which is exemplified in their product, making this partnership a perfect fit for us. Absurda also has a synchronicity of influences: design, art and fashion. Between the designer’s Brazilian roots, our common inspiration and an overall unique vision, Nomia seemed to be the perfect opportunity for our first U.S Collaboration.” says Rafael Rodrigues, one of four partners of the Absurda team.

Absurda’s two best selling styles were reimagined and recreated with exclusive lens colors, handpicked to compliment Nomia’s SS18 collection by the designer herself, Yara Flinn.



The above styles will be transformed for Nomia’s collaboration, they will be revealed on Wednesday.

“I was drawn to work with Absurda because I felt a connection to their story and passion they put in their product. In an oversaturated eyewear market, they bring something unique and authentic to the table.  My mother is from Rio de Janeiro and I love seeing more companies from South America breaking into the international market with new product and a strong philosophy.  We’re very excited about this collaboration” says Yara.


The collaboration will be revealed at Nomia’s SS18 NYFW presentation on September 6th, 2017 at Max Fish in New York City. The exclusive collaboration styles will be available for pre-sale on starting in October and will only be available while quantities last.
